I am the second holder of callsign WI7B. The first holder was Gerhard Diedrichs. After some investigation, I located a long-time friend of Gerhard's who wrote me about him:

"Gerhard was a New Zealander. He retired from Air New Zealand, so he used to come and stay with me in Ladera Heights, CA. His call was ZL3KD,and he also obtained the call which you have now while he was staying in Phoenix. He has a daughter living in Ireland and a son in Australia, where he became a silent key many years ago. He was mostly a phone band operator (especially on our 20m net).
